Train Ride is a 1,6k word SoL story. In it, Rarity and Applejack reunite after a long time. Sort of.
I feel I understand why this doesn't have a Sad tag despite being a sad fic. It never goes that far into sad territory, but the story has this melancholic air to it permeating every paragraph. So that gets a plus from me.
What about the plot? Well, it starts innocently enough. Reunion after a few years of being apart, but there's something else going on and it quickly becomes apparent. I've seen this kind of story before, and I think this does a good job with that premise. It's not an unheard way of dealing with grief and unresolved feelings.
I'm not one for Rarijack romance, but I like what this story did. Each plays up the other's qualities while doing the same with their shortcomings. It feels like there's still a longing, but one that's firmly in the past.
And then comes the second twist. And boy, that's what sets this story apart.
Overall, I really liked this one. It's quick. It does its thing well. I don't think you will regret giving it a shot.
